Just confirmed: Tropical Storm Eugene has formed in the Eastern Pacific. Meanwhile, it looks like we'll have confirmation of the next tropical depression in the Atlantic sometime within the next six to 12 hours!
This is the large area of low pressure that's centered about 650 miles East of the Northern Windward Islands. This area is continuing to become more organized and according to the National Weather Service, there is 100% chance of tropical cyclone formation within 24 to 48 hours.
If this does in fact turn into our next tropical storm of the 2011 Hurricane Season, it would be named Emily. This is a storm the US mainland should be monitoring very closely.
Tropical storm watches and warning for the Windward and Leeward Islands may be needed as early as later today. An Air Force Reserve Unit Reconnaissance Aircraft is scheduled to fly into the storm this afternoon to analyze the storm's current strength and status.
This is the only area of concern right now in the Atlantic Ocean; however, as previously mentioned, a new tropical storm, Eugene, has formed in the Pacific. This storm poses no threat to land at this time and is located in the Eastern Pacific Ocean with top winds of around 40 miles per hour.
Stay tuned for continuous updates on all tropical storms when deemed necessary...
