Fire Island 5k: Run for Rose

On your marks, get set, go!!!

At least those are the words that hundreds of Long Islanders anxiously wait to hear as they take part in the 5th annual "Run for Rose" at Fire Island's Ocean Bay Park every year.

The run helps support the American Brain Tumor Association and raises money for brain tumor research, which some of you may unfortunately know, can take the life of someone you love all too quickly. I think my girlfriend and her family know this best.

Donald M. Cervantes, her grandfather, was relieved of his fight against a brain tumor over two years ago. I know how tough it was and still is for her family to deal with the loss of a wonderful father and grandfather from complications of a brain tumor - I couldn't imagine having to deal with it personally.

There are so many illnesses and diseases that need to be cured in this world. One of the many ways to help in doing this is to have a fundraiser. That's why the Run for Rose was started to help support brain tumor research and every year, Team Dashing for Don joins several other teams and runs a 5k at Fire Island for the cause. You can read more about how this event started here. Please remember this event for the future and try to support the cause, if you can.

And this website, as you know, is all about weather, so of course your race forecast will appear below as next year's race approaches!

CANCER DOESN'T CARE IF ITS RAINING!!!!! IT HAPPENS RAIN OR SHINE THATS WHY ITS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT TO GET UP AND "JUST DO IT".. RUN WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND SOUL AND THE EVENT WILL STILL BE A SUCCESS. ALL OF YOU RUNNERS AND VOLUNTEERS ARE AN AMAZING INSPIRATION TO ME, ON BEHALF OF SOMEONE WHO LOST MY SISTER TO CANCER, MY STEPDAD, MY UNCLE, MY GRANDMOTHER AND MY COUSIN.. THANK YOU~

Thanks for your kind words Erin! :) The event was great, despite the pouring rain!!

Thanks for the kind words! It was another Amazing day despite the rain. 45,000.00 raised. This is not possible without the support all fundraisers, Volunteers and runners.
